Business Use Cases play a crucial role in defining the scope of a project, particularly during the Inception phase. However, their significance extends throughout different phases of a project depending on its nature. For instance, in business (re-)engineering projects, architecturally significant Business Use Cases are detailed during the Elaboration phase while the rest are outlined during the Construction phase. On the other hand, when developing a software system, Business Use Cases relevant to the software system receive detailed descriptions during the Elaboration phase.

Responsibility for maintaining the integrity of Business Use Cases falls on a Business Process Analyst. They ensure that each use case accurately depicts how an organization conducts its business processes and that workflow descriptions are clear and purposeful. Additionally, they validate include- and extend-relationships derived from Business Use Cases to maintain consistency. Clear communication associations involving Business Use Cases are also emphasized by ensuring readability in diagrams depicting these relationships as well as special requirements, pre-conditions, and post-conditions.

Tailoring of Business Use Case specifications is essential based on project objectives. For instance, if business modeling focuses solely on mapping existing organizational structures without intending to introduce changes, certain sections such as Performance Goals, Risks, Possibilities, and Process Owner details can be excluded from use case outlines. This tailored approach ensures that only relevant information is included in line with project goals and requirements.
